L'il Aussie Prems was created by Julia Toivonen after giving birth to two premature babies. Ronan was born at 27
weeks gestation and Tristan was born at 36 weeks gestation. Julia has created an online community to reach out
to parents and offer support and understanding whether parents are still in the NICU/SCN or at home.
Bub Born Early was created by Natasha Bowden, author of the BubBE Book, a NICU journal and mother of a
former 23-weeker, Hudson.
Irish Premature Babies is a voluntary organisation compromised of parents who have all had a preterm baby or
babies. In January 2010, a decision was taken to formalise themselves so they could make a concerted effort to
establish a group to support the parents of preterm babies, hence the formation of Irish Premature Babies.
Ireland in 2010 has very little that represents and promotes the welfare of the parent of preterm babies, but they
hope to change this. They believe they have the passion and experience to make a difference.
It all started with Nicole Conn's “little man” Nicholas’s early birth at 1 lb. His long stay in the NICU evolved into
Little Man," a 12-award winning documentary that has regular runs on Showtime.L
In 2009, a Midwestern mother launched an independent website devoted to families experiencing the hardships
of prematurity. Many resources, products and free services are outlined at Miracle Bebe including; baby
announcements, a NICU journal, scrapbooking pages, a NICU dictionary, and more.
After eleven years as a NICU nurse, Dianne Maroney thought she would be somewhat prepared for the
premature birth of her daughter Mackenzie, born 3 1/2 months early, and weighing only 1 pound, 12 ounces;
but she was immediately humbled. Now that her daughter has grown out of many of her complications of
prematurity, Dianne has been able to work at helping other preemie parents. She hopes her Web site will bring
knowledge and emotional support to both parents of premature infants and the health professionals who care
for them. She has also co-authored the book, "Your Premature Baby and Child" (Berkley, 1999), which is a
comprehensive handbook for preemie parents that gives critical information regarding the first five years of their
preemie's life.

Micropremature Babies -- How Low Can You Go?
Since the mid-90’s, our newest minority consists of the tiniest humans, born weighing less than two pounds.
This award-winning 43 minute film describes the psycho-social impact of such a birth upon the family unit. We
seek to explore their world and answer these questions: Who are they? Why does this happen? What
challenges do they face after long term hospitalization? Will these children be a burden on society?
COPE for HOPE is comprised of nurse practitioners, advanced practice nurses, and doctorally
prepared researchers with extensive clinical, teaching, and research experience. COPE for HOPE
helps parents, children, professionals, hospitals and insurers to optimize mental and physical health
outcomes in children, teens, and families in today's high stress environment.
